Just a while ago on-point tv had the opportunity to sit down with the man called José James.
His debut album ‘The Dreamer’ put vocal jazz right back on the map and I’ll be damned if I’m not a fan!
Watch it:
The original idea was to make an album based on John Coltrane’s music. The album hasn’t seen light yet, but it did bring mr. James in contact with Flying Lotus – a relative to the late Alice Coltrane.
The two teamed up, an album is in the making, the first release was the flipside of the Parkbench People single: Visions of Violet (which you hear in the outro of the video)
This was the first time I had some semi-professional equipment, teamed up with two extra cameramen, which was brilliant. It made me dream of black leather jackets with ‘on-point tv crew’ on the back.
Much love to Lander Lenaerts and ineversleep.net for the camera assistance.
Thanks to the management as well, and to José, who took some time out to talk to us, after having toured without a break for two weeks (not a single day off).
Ow, and, the pride I felt when giving José the on-point tv promo dvd, which he turned around, looked carefully: “I’ve seen this one, and this one!”

Nice work once again Alex (and crew, of course). Liked it very much and will certainly have to look into James music some more.
What camera do you work with normally?
