Representing all things funky and afro-influenced, DJ Kwak has been serving Brussels plenty a grooves for years and years already.
Be it as dj/promoter/mc behind the infamous monthly Strictly Niceness parties or as the selector for the weekly Back To Niceness radioshow (alongside 72soul on the mic), or simply doing his dj thing on just about every location Brussels has,
you’re not truely a Brusseleir if you’ve never your groove on to a Kwak selection.
This Saturday January 10th it’s another Strictly Niceness night out, this time with residents Bernard Dobbeleer and Kwak behind the decks.
Click through and see what Kwak’s got cooking:
DJ Lefto
“well, … being an On-Point expert doesn’t deliver him from being the strongest belgian dj … think Dour, The Hop, he’s been crazy busy for utter goodness … as adopted by Gilles Peterson and Family LeftEZ has plenty of doors ready to open for him … expect a lot of insane mixes and a release on Appletree Records (before getting releases on Brownswood ?) … 1 love …” (site)
Chupacabra Magazine
“A forthcoming magazine in French preceeded by a blog. A different point of view with quite strong editors from France, Belgium and elsewhere. Music, social living aspects, international politics, story telling on the long run and out of the traditional promotion calendar … a new voice in the media landscape …” (origin of the name) (site)
Jephte Guillaume
“This Haitian New-Yorker might make his long-awaited breakthrough this year.Crazy house music producer … strangely enough , this guy is the closest you can be from the Haitian traditionnals … the “Papa Loko” track is my favourite house release of this year …
Keep your ears open for this man. (site)
The Laid-back / Infinit Skills Crew
“Heavy on radio programs, consistent on the beats, these guys know how to settle the score in the best way possible …
I’m expecting some releases and a new radio concept from the man called Julius.”(site)
Preachamat
“The year of the come-back for Belgium’s most talented mc?
We’ve seen him deliver tight rhymes over InfinitSkills’ Eric P and LuiGi: download “Y a plus de vrai nulle part” and “VIPO” here.
To his lyrical skills, competition is none, I’m hoping we’ll see him deliver more material fresh from the studio.”
Uman
“Filled Brussels’ Théâtre de Poche 3 nights in a row while his album has been slept on, Uman is very busy with plenty of projects … writing songs for others (Cleo, Isabelle Wery), writing new rhymes for himself, painting again, Uman should be in the lights next year…” (as seen on on-point tv)
Muhsinah
“Lately she has been all over the place … underground and overground … collaborating with Common should open doors for her and solidify her fan base…” (site)
Jay Electronica
“Consistently releasing ill tracks through the net, Jay is the next big thing happening on the hip hop side of life… tight producer and extra-tight rhymer and lyricist… Backed up by the likes of Nas, Just Blaze, Erykah Bady, Talib Kweli, there’s no reason to doubt” (site)
José James
“The new voice in jazz … awesome charisma on stage and amazing vocal consistency. José James adds that little something to a world that is very sleepy … I’d love to hear him in the excellent company of Jason Moran… José, if you’re reading this…” (site)
Flying Lotus
“Superb releases and remixes… I can’t wait for futher duties on the more instrumental tip … with José james for example … his copycats are kind of annoying me … I prefer the original…” (site)
Cris Prolific
“We’ve been waiting for the release of his album and our waiting will soon be awarded. Besides that he’s been working like a maniac on many other projects that should be released in 2009 … this should be Cris’s year” (soon on on-point tv)(site)

when’s that Cris Prolific album droppin’ ? Been dying to hear it for ages now. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the man.
And Jepthé Guilllaume ? Really ? Been buying 12′s of him 10 years ago and can’t say I’m impressed with the progression he’s made since. None to be precise … he never topped that Ibo Lele track in my opinion. That one was fire.

Cris is on the “I work as a mofo” mode … As for Jephte, listen carefully to the “Papa Loko “track … brilliant … also, I’m missing haiti so much that anything relative to it must be in may list …
