Still one of my favourite radioshows on the interwebs: Basic Soul Radio, I could resist but kindly ask mr. Simon Harrison, if he’d feel like compiling another list of music names we all should keep our eyes on in the year that is.

Sure enough – like last year – mr. Harrison delivered another exquisite list. Again, packed with discoveries:

Atjazz

Martin “AtJazz” Iveson has been going for years but last year was a blinder with his ”Full Circle” album plus remixes of Mario Basanov & Vidis and projects like The Epicureans (Atjazz and Mark de Clive-Lowe), Soul Evidence (Atjazz, Si Tew & Replife) to name a few. By the sounds of it 2009 should be even bigger!!” (site)

Floating Points

I’m not sure how long Sam has been producing tracks but Mr Beatnick passed a few tracks and edits over to me early last year and I’ve never stopped playing them. New tracks are starting to surface and 2009 should be a blinder.” (site)

(Rumour is Floating Points might come to Brussels in 2009…)

Landslide

“Yemp Booty” was released just before Christmas and is simply MASSIVE with Colonel Red on vocals and includes a remix by Aaron Jerome. New album on the way which is sure to be another blinder, in fact I heard another track with Redz which was simply awesome.” (site)

LP

Wonderful vocalist from New Zealand who featured on tracks with K15, Bluevibe Studio and Jellphonic in 2008. If LP is a new name to you, well get yourself over to her myspace page and check out her ACE tunes.” (site)

Marc Rapson

“In 2008 Marc created some wonderful edits of Marvin Gaye and Sarah Vaughan, plus remixes of Bennson and Emanative.

There’s a Dilla tribute project and some solo bits on the way and he’s already had numerous support from the big guns. It’s gonna be a busy year for Marc.” (site)

RLP

If you want heavy soulful beats with a jazz twist well RLP is THE man. Based in Tokyo, Japan, he is shockingly underated yet the response to the tracks I’ve played has been amazing.

There are currently 6 tracks to check out on his myspace player and his music says it all.” (site)

Sauce81

Here’s another Japanese producer who put me on to loads of quality tracks from new producers out of Japan that completely blew me away. It was so good to see Nobu promote other artists as well as himself.

In 2008 his broken beat monster ”Qozmik Phunk” was realised on Unique Uncut and he produced tracks on Karen Gibson Roc’s album. He also took part in the Red Bull Academy in Barcelona, so we’re really looking forward to hearing what’s up and coming.” (site)

Soundpieces

The album is complete and I’m currently monitoring all post because this is one album I’m really looking forward to.

I’ve been hammering the demos and heard recordings from their live shows and it’s all finally coming together.”

Sarah Winton

Regarded as a legend in the UK who’s worked with numerous producers. In 2008 Sarah sang on a shocking amount of fantastic tracks and yet still had time to put together her second album. We all wait with great excitement!!” (site)

Morgan Zarate

Morgan’s “Sticks and Stones” turned out one of the tunes from 2008 with Ghostface and Eska. We can only imagine who he’s had in the studio since then but it’s sure to be something special.” (site)
