A personal hero to the entire on-point family, Henrik Schwarz has been on the interview wishlist for three years now. And July ’09 the moment had finally come when we got to our hero. An interview that only got confirmed hours before his blazing set at Ghent’s TenDaysOff festival.
In the interview he speaks upon his start in music, his past as a graphic designer, switching lifestyles from working on sundays and nights to a daytime occupation, and some general insights in his process of making music. Tune in:
Music you’re hearing in the video:
- Sun Ra – Henrik Schwarz edit
- Omar ft. Stevie Wonder – Feeling You (Henrik Schwarz remix – unreleased/bootlegged)
- Mari Boine – Vuoi Vuoi Me (Henrik Schwarz remix)
- Henrik Schwarz – Chicago
- Henrik Schwarz – Leave My Head Alone (instrumental parts)
If you’re not familiar with Henrik Schwarz’ work, his DJ Kicks compilation makes up for a nice introduction of his trademark style, which ranges from Jungle Brothers over Sun Ra to straight up techno and voodoo funk. This man is pure genius.
(Huge shout-out to Christian Prommer for making this one happen, and to the fine people of TenDaysOff for being so kind and patient with me.)
