There are times in your life where you just want to bang your head against many walls for screwing things up so heavily even Murphy and his law are laughing at you. After figuring out technicalities and arrangements, the other night I finally got to do a webcam interview with my favourite artist of the moment – and of times to come, without any doubt – mr. Dâm Funk.
For half an hour Dâm talked to me about how he experienced the past year, touring the world, digging through records in different continents. On why he decided to take his live act to the next level playing the Axis Keytar. On learning the bass and on multi-instrumentalists and on how he’s not faking the funk.
We talked about the recordings he did before his Toeachizown album that’s now in stores. On the recordings even PeanutButter Wolf didn’t get to hear, and on his forthcoming Adult Funk album. We talked about future collaborations with Theo Parrish, Mazter Blaster and on his appreciation for the 18-year old Kyle Hall.
The talk went to conclude this may have been one of Dâm’s last interviews, as he’s about ready to hit the studio again and music isn’t being made by talking about it, of course.
All of that, and more.
Unfortunately I messed up, and the recording came in with no sound to it. So I’ll have to leave you with these screenshots, just so you know on-point has its off days too. I’m terribly sorry.
Big shout-out to Dâm Funk, make sure to come down to Le Tavernier in Brussels tomorrownight, as the Bluefunk District presents : Dâm Funk & OndaSonora. Doors open at around 10pm and the entrance is five euros. For the people who’ve read all the way to the end of this little text, and who can mail me the full name and birthplace of mr. Dâm Funk, I’ve got 4 tickets to give away!
With all that said and done, let’s watch On-Point TV one more time, when OndaSonora’s Bart and I interviewed Dâm Funk in Antwerp, still one of my favourite interview moments:

hey alex, know how it feels, everyone has this once. my friend andrew messed up this interview with one of his greatest heroes capleton. and re-did it later.
me myself left the dat-tape with my madlib interview in a restaurant, but then, thank god, people found it! (its still my favourite interview).
also I remember interviewing raphael saadiq while hearing the microphone cable was broken and knowing the recording would be for nothing.
take care, it happens to all of us.
