Watch this next photo closely please. Especially if you’re familiar with the city of Brussels:

Photographer Ringo Gomez-Jorge made a report about Brussels’ Independent Troops for Vice Magazine. Captain Sergej Culumarevic (who you might know as one of the participants to Release) and his friends play warfare in the streets of the capital city. But that’s not all there is to it. On a first degree level the concept is highlighting Belgium’s ever-lasting political troubles with two communities arguing over language, culture and the country’s future in an international context.
On a second level degree, think about the absurdity of eight grown men disguised in military outfits – Kalasjnikovs included – walking past a guardian police man at the former financial tower, at the time squatted by so-called sans-papiers (people staying in the country illegaly if you will).
Soon the troops will launch a campaign through-out the city, with posters screaming: ‘Brussels Needs You!’. Now this got me wondering if I’d apply, it seems like there definitely are helmets for a vast battalion…
