2007 was a busy year for Kwak himself, as we’ve seen him launching the Back to Niceness radioshow, pushing up his dj agenda and putting mixes online.
Kwak decided to give us two lists, one with international names and the other one with Belgian bands to look out for. One of our mottos has always been: ‘Shop Local!’ so we’re all in favour of that concept.

Click through, and discover…

Cris Prolific- (listen)
Cris Prolific has had us on lock for quite a while now, with little sneak listening sessions of his forthcoming album “Art / Money”, dropping early 2008. (You’ll hear his Dilla tribute ‘Aquarius’ on the latest vic&lloyd podcast). The cast of featurings will show an all-star list of names such as Guilty Simpson, M.E.D., Phat Kat, and many more.
Will “Quantic” Holland – (listen)
“Tropidelico” was one of 2007′s killeralbums. The man behind the succes of Quantic seems to be the hardes working man in showbusiness nowadays. Just watch his releases speed up and we’re only guessing what the next can be, a live concert perhaps?
Kokolo – (listen)
Mister Nice guy, a typical N.Y.C. flavoured afrolatino beat, Kokolo released their album on the UK imprint Freestyle Records as well as some 7 inch singles. Don’t sleep on it.
Trus’Me – (listen)
A 12 inch killer, who served us an album packed with deep disco house flavours to heavy to ignore. More is to be expected from this man. Watch out.
Orgone – (listen)
Funk set-up, featuring some members of the live Plantlife live band. Having released a brilliant album on Ubiquity I’m on the look-out for more of those breaks, funk, afrobeat, salsa.
Guilty Simpson – (listen)
The wildest MC. Made in the D(etroit) … hardcore to the max … Guilty stepped into the spotlight as one of J Dilla’s protégés and is most likely to consistently represent his trademark sound for years to come.
Afro Elements – (listen)

I have only one 7″ of these guys. A single released through Freestyle Records which promises great things to come nonetheless.
Melanie de Biasio – (listen)
A superb and charming voice whose debut album announces the future of vocal jazz, in Belgium at least.
Soul:ID – (listen)
An allstar line-up of Brussels based vocalists, whose debut album “Sex, love and philosophy”, come out on the US label ABB Soul (Peven Everett, Little Brother, Dilated People, etc.) Their afropean soul sound will spread throughout the globe next year, Japan release scheduled for February, and then there’s the UK and Germany to follow. Interview soon on on-point tv, for now, check out the epk.
K Bonus – (listen)
A maximum of remixes for all the big names in the new breaks scene, excellent dj sets and an album in preparation for the year to come. K Bonus will be in the news for sure.
Infinit Skills – (listen)
Brussels-based beat collective who served us the most remarkable hiphop release in Belgium this year: Nine.
“L’aventure, c’est l’aventure”, a superb album, that wasn’t all that much in the spotlight last year. To be released in France next year, and after that, let’s hope we see Uman coming back throught the main entrance.
Album of last year, also scheduled for release in France early on in 2008. Solid as it is already, we’ll probably see the live show grow stronger and stronger. This one is going to heard!
Grimelock – (listen)
Promising dubstep collective. Both live as well as on the production tip.
