Transit Ostende, legendary document of Marvin Gaye’s stay in Ostend, Belgium, in the 80’s.
Under the wings of concert promoter Freddy Cousaert, Gaye was a troubled man in Ostend, rebuilding a life away from drugs and women. During that period, he wrote ‘Sexual Healing’.
I’ve been looking for this film for a while now, turns out, it’s online, under the name ‘Remember Marvin Gaye’, which is the director’s cut version, by director Richard Oliver:
Previously on your favourite Sunday-afternoon-television-station:
Sun Ra – Space is the Place
Dark Days
Grizzly Man
80 Blocks From Tiffany’s
And more…
Tune in next Sunday for more!

Seeing this one on the telly on the lap of my dad is one of those yellowish Kodak childhood memories of mine. Even at a young age, and while barely understanding half of it, I was absolutely entranced by the bittersweet magic of Marvin Gaye strolling by the Ostend cafés. I’ve been wanting to see this one again for years too. BIG UP for finding this.
Anybody know an app to rip this to MPG?

Thank you for this. Isn’t it interesting ( and very ironic) that the most sublime, sensitive and thorough documentation of black American artists/art forms is often done “across the pond.”?

This documentary is DEEP!!! A part of me was walking with him through this whole thing. Marvin was fighting some serious demons! I respect him for stepping out of the madness to center himself again.
